Where Our Story Began

Brother and sister duo, Ron and Janelle have been a part of the Australian farming community for generations. Growing up on farms and stations across Australia is where they gained an appreciation for sustainable choices and embracing zero-waste principles.

In 2004, Janelle purchased a property in South West WA, which had 5 acres of table grapes already growing. Today, Aussie Dried Foods are producing a wide range of products from dehydrated fruits and vegetables to chutneys, sauces, jams, and more. Additionally, we are the only producers in WA who dry red globe grapes with natural methods of dehydration (no chemicals sulphur, freeze-drying).

Aussie Dried Foods represents a symphony of efforts between three dynamic entities – Aussie Dried Foods, Cow Town, and Margaret River Dried Grapes. Combined, we are a family dedicated to transforming our abundant harvests into delectable products through the art of live dehydration. This process preserves the intense flavours and nutritional value of our produce, sharing the delicious flavours of Margaret River with the whole of Australia.

Our Vision

All our products at Aussie Dried Foods are produced on our family farm in our commercially licensed kitchen, industrial dehydrators, and storage facilities. Sourcing produce from local farmers and growers, allows us to support our community and produce solely Australian grown products.

Meet Our Team

Ron Norris

Co-Director

Ron has had a varied career starting with the Royal Australian Air Force as an aircraft engine fitter followed by a number of challenging roles and more recently working as an Associate Director for Sales and Marketing covering the Asia Pacific region for Pratt and Whitney Canada. His extensive career in sales and marketing, operational and quality management has involved extensive travelling throughout the world.

He has a unique understanding of many different cultures outside Australia from having lived in the Philippines, Singapore and Hong Kong for more than 20 years.

Ron has always been drawn back to his roots in Australia as the saying goes “you can take the boy out of the bush but not the bush out of the boy”. Living on his sisters farm in South West WA has catalysed Ron’s interest in food production, farming and giving Aussie farmer’s a fair go.

Janelle Leiper (RGN, BPsych and MPH)

Co-Director

Janelle also has a varied career. Commencing her career as a nurse and then working in Public Health in Management, Injury Prevention, Disaster Preparedness and Epidemiology and Research. She has particular interests in Injury Prevention and food security. While maintaining a career and studying Janelle married and had two children and runs the family farm with husband Phil. Since leaving public health Janelle has been pursuing her interest in food conservation and food wastage utilisation.

Janelle loved her upbringing in Boulia and in her three years on the station Glenormiston where her parents were employed by the Australian Pastoral Company to be the cook and mechanic following the sale of their transport and fuel distributorship. Life was hard, busy and educational but life lessons have never been forgotten. Her passion for the land has been continued through farming with her husband in South West, Western Australia and has farmed sheep, cattle, dairy,( pine plantation), fruit trees, vegetables (small scale) and table grapes.

Janelle is also a coeliac and conscious of people’s dietary needs. Most of the products produced by Aussie Dried Foods are gluten free and sulphur free. COVID-19 has also given Janelle cause to want to support those in the bush who are struggling with food supply issues as well as everyday normal living.

COVID-19 has highlighted the role we can play at Aussie Dried Foods to help those in the bush and those that need support during COVID-19.
